Unter Legasthenie/LRS versteht man eine Teilleistungsstörung in den Bereichen

  • des Lesens und/oder
  • des Schreibens

bei mindestens durchschnittlicher Intelligenz.

LRS ist die Abkürzung für „Lese-Rechtschreibschwäche“, häufig wird aber auch die rein beschreibende Bezeichnung „Lese-Rechtschreibschwierigkeiten“ verwendet. So spricht die Kultusministerkonferenz von „besonderen Schwierigkeiten beim Erlernen des Lesens und/oder Rechtschreibens“.

Alle Kinder, die das Lesen und Schreiben erlernen, machen anfangs die gleichen Fehler, unterschiedlich stark. Liegt keine LRS vor, nehmen die Probleme rasch ab. Kinder mit einer Lese-Rechtschreib-Schwierigkeit machen die Fehler wesentlich häufiger und über einen sehr viel längeren Zeitraum.
